| FACE Reunion @ the Magic Bag w/ Blasternaut and FlopHouse |
|
FACE will be playing a one-night-only reunion show with Blasternaut and Flophouse on Friday, April 20th at The Magic Bag. With that line-up, this is one show you won't want to miss. As you may or may not recall, FACE took a leave of absense some five years ago (good god, has it been that long?) to pursue other avenues and interests. If you need a refresher, check out our interview from 2002 "About Face". You may have seen guitarist Mike Smith roaming around town since then with Dr Hi-Fi, Barstar, and/or, of course, The Howling Diablos. If you want to hear what else he's been up to, click read more below.

I do recall seeing the guy in front on the Hall of Douchebags website however. Great. Local boy gets 15 seconds of fame.

We doubled-up on Jager shots and were well juiced by the time Face took the stage. K, as always, aimed directly front stage center and hung there throughout the entire show. I hung back a bit so I could get to the bar and bathroom post-haste.
Courtney's lookin' tight, sporting a slimmer frame, a blonder doo, and probably wearing more makeup than I've ever seen on her. She's like Rockin' American Idol Barbie now. She still has great pipes though and hopefully will put them to better use than as a backup to Kid Rock's "Frosty The Blowman" disgrace (ugh). Oh, and did you know she can play the bongo drum with her elbow?
Mike Smith can still tear it up. Always enjoy seeing him wail. A guitar devotee of the first order. I was also reminded what awesome bass player Mike B is. His lines are adventurous without being too overbearing or losing the bottom. Liberal use of hand-tapped chords and intervals which is really fun to watch front row. Steve Firneno - just a great drummer on a simple kit. One tom; unless you're Carl Palmer, that's all you need.
But that show was fucking loud. Somewhere around the fourth song the guitars began to make my ears bleed. They're still ringing.
Caught the Blasternaut set. Their band sign was blinding me from the back of the room (a fancy back-lit number). Not really my bag but it was a competent showing. Seen the guys from Flophouse giving away posters and hawking their new CD's (sorry guys, missed your set completely).
