A little History about Westbound Records for you Funkateers...

The year was 1969; Armen Boladian was driving Westbound on 8 Mile Rd. when it occurred to him that everyone was going to California to make it in the music business. Well, it was at this moment that his life would make a U-turn into history, the moment he decided that he would make the West come to him. He decided to help the musicians in his backyard of Detroit, the city he was born in, the city he Loved. Talent was all around him and he harvested the best of it... Westbound was born.

Armen began in the music business in the early 1950's at the young age of 15, he would later drop out of college to devote his life to music. He started by Promoting and Distributing records for artists such as Dionne Warwick (which he is credited for breaking out of Detroit with her 1st hit "Don't Make Me Over"), MC5, Credence Clearwater, Doors, Neil Diamond and many more. Then there was Funk...

In 1969 he signed Funkadelic to his newly formed Record Label. He would go on to sign Ohio Players, Detroit Emeralds, Denise LaSalle, Byron MacGregor and many more. Westbound Artists have sold Millions of records worldwide. Funkadelic has a couple of Albums in Rolling Stone's Top Albums of All Time, including "Maggot Brain". Funkadelic is the most sampled band of all time. Artists such as Dr.Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Master P, MC Hammer, Eminem and countless more have used samples to breathe life into some of the most legendary Rap Jams ever. Funkadelic music is the foundation for much of Rap and artists such as Dr. Dre credit Funkadelic as their biggest influence. All this can be attributed to the Legendary vision of one man, Armen Boladian who allowed his artists complete creative freedom spawning some of the most Creative and Enduring music ever recorded.

“These bands were handpicked by T Money and Armen, because these acts know how to promote, fill a room, sell CDs and write good music,” informs Green. “They do it all. That gets veterans like me and Armen Boladian, excited about the music industry again.”

T Money has graced the stage with classic R&B group The Dramatics, godfather of funk George Clinton, and can be heard thumpin’ left-handed on platinum tracks “Gin and Juice” and “Doggy Dogg World” by Snoop Dogg, “Indo Smoke” by Warren G & Mista Grim, and “Let Me Ride(RMX)” by Dr. Dre. He has also worked with Oleta Adams, Ice Cube, Shaquille O’ Neal, Robbie Robertson, and Eric Sermon.

“We want to show Detroit that we (Westbound) never left, and this new talent truly represents Detroit and its musical legacy,” adds Green.
