| Survey Results: You gonna ''Make it?'' |

According to our last survey, "My Chances of Making It (however defined) are...", twenty percent of respondents think they'll "make it" in the music business within three to five years at the most. Unfortunately, those same people responded exactly the same way three to five years ago - which just goes to show you can never underestimate the power of denial. Click "Read More" below to get Mitch's take on the remaining survey results.
Another twenty percent achieved cognitive dissonance reduction (otherwise known as self-justification) by claiming that their artistic integrity allows them to ignore the term "making it"; every song is a masterpiece, every CD a boon to humanity and every show a unique piece of live theater - and anybody who says different is just being negative!
Sixteen percent wouldn't commit, saying it could go either way (which was no surprise to their common-law wives) and another sixteen percent said their chances of "making it" were probably not good but they chose to ignore the odds in favor of poverty and it's inherent advantages, like the E-Z tax form.
Twelve percent faced facts that they weren't going to "make it" and are currently enrolled in trade school, pursuing more lucrative careers in flower arranging, massage therapy and/or Tarot reading.
But eight percent responded that "making it" is definitely going to happen within the next 365 days and four percent say it's already in the bag! The remaining four percent don't know why they got into this music business in the first place, then they remembered that they signed the previous four percent to questionable record deals and plan to sign the other eight percent in the next year in hopes of finally turning a profit.
Curiously, nobody responded that their chances were 'better than the average indie' band but SaxSymbol commented that your chances of being hit by a meteorite (ten trillion to one according to The Great Celestial Sideshow)are better than "making it" in the music business.
Now that's just being cynical.
