| Music Review: Making Me Wonder by Lime Regal |

 Though I never received the disc I was told to expect from Lime Regal, I was so anxious to get my ears on it I ponied up the cash and downloaded it from iTunes. Now that the Lansing-incubated, Detroit-forged band is receiving attention from all quarters, they probably don't need the support of little old MB. But unpopularity has never stopped me from sharing my opinions about the local music I really dig. Lime Regal's six-song ep "Making Me Wonder" is definitely now on that list.

What first attracted me to Lime Regal was the distinctive voice of singer Nathan Abramson. It's a rare, high-timbered voice reminiscent of Jon Anderson of Yes. And like Yes' beginning in the late sixties, Lime Regal's progressive sound is tempered with just enough pop sensibility to make it approachable to an audience who might be turned-off by the "progressive" label. Likewise, Lime Regal's songs have a forward momentum and an irrepressible optimism that I imagine comes from looking at the world through a prism of colored glass - a nice bottle-green I'm thinking. It's a refreshing vibe for a world gone bad.
First Impressions: A Track By Track Review
1. 100 MPH- Overdriven keys remind me of Yes' first album, before they had committed to a more progressive sound and pop was still evident.
2. Saturday Night - Change of direction. Sounds very Difford & Tilbrook (Squeeze) to me. Flavored with youthful optimism and anticipation.
3. Making Me Wonder - Definitely the single. Hammer-on intro lends very progressive feel to this one. "Offer up kindness / to a new generation / children all around the world" - nice message. Very Yes sounding at the end of the chorus (2'18"). Lime Regal reminds me of Maroon 5 or, locally, Immigrant Blue. Great tune.
4. Four Leaf Clover - Shimmering key intro reminiscent of early Yes evolves into waltzing, understated guitar work an high, sweet vocals.
5. Submarine - Back to an early Yes feel with lots of forward momentum and more youthful optimism. Includes a brief history of man.
6. We're Coming Back - Lyrically, it seems to be a redemption song. Nice closer. Feel satisfied but not full.
