| Random Acts of Music: Kalamazoo's Old Peninsula Pub |
|
We couldn't go all the way to Kalamazoo without targeting some unsuspecting west-siders for Random Acts of Music. And it doesn't get any more local in K'zoo than Immigrant Blue who performed at Club Soda later that night with Sylvia Trench and The Kingsnakes. IBmonkey set us up with a whole box of free swag to accost whomever we chose. Since we could barely move after eating a hearty dinner at The Old Peninsula brew pub, we decided look for targets right there in the dining room. "{Belch!} would you like some free music with your burger?"
Normally, when a woman in a bar tells me her last name is "Ex" I figure I'm getting a not-so-subtle brush-off. But in the case of our kind waitress (or is it wait-person?) Sam Ex, it just happens to be true. She says the name has Russian/German roots so I looked it up. I couldn't confirm the origin but over at ReuniteMyFamily.com it seems there are several Ex's in Michigan and 87 surname matches in all who are looking to reunite with their Ex-families. Perhaps Sam will host an Ex-Reunion next fall at The Old Peninsula Brew Pub and serve up some of that delicious Pumpkin Ale (yum). Enjoy your Ex-tremely good fortune and your free music, Sam.

Targets:
Tammy & Steve Rodgers
CD: Immigrant Blue (debut)
Though I couldn't convince them to pitch their theater tickets and come down to Club Soda for a night of rock & debauchery, Tammy & Steve Rodgers graciously accepted their free disc. She's a big fan of Supertramp so the local flavor of Immigrant Blue will be a nice fit. We plant the seed - you nurture the scene. And then there was joy for all...

Targets: (from left) Dave Johnson, Patricia Jackson, Bob Henderson & Philipe Gonzalez
CD: Immigrant Blue (debut)
Being that Kalamazoo is home to Western Michigan University, I'll go out on a limb here and guess that this table of relatively bored-looking youth have just fueled themselves with fine food and are about to embark on a long Saturday night of coed hijinx. Then again, if they are students, they're probably broke by now. So we hope they find a welcome diversion in Immigrant Blue's excellent debut. If not, perhaps they'll keep them wrapped and give them away as Christmas presents. That'll work too. Enjoy!

I've already got something else in the works. |
