Review by Jeff Halicki

Immigrant Blue is a 5 piece modern rock band from Kalamazoo, MI with some great songwriting ability. Their self-titled debut is filled with great vocals, screaming guitars, melodic keys, intense drums, and some bass lines that make my sub woofer afraid for its life.

The disc starts with a very upbeat tune titled Psycho Babble. A great mixture of all instruments. This tune is extremely energetic. This track is most likely to be my favorite.

Track two, titled Immigrant Blues shows the bands versatility. Strong with keys and great ambient vocal harmonies in the chorus, this one keeps me very interested.

Track three, titled Jane is an upbeat tune with some crafty lyrics. Vocals and harmonies in the chorus are excellent. This one has a cool bridge and a very driving rhythm.

March St. has somewhat of a Beatles feel to it. This is what I would call a “happy tune” and features a really sweet bass guitar solo.

Track five, titled Mary comes in full with a clever off-time rhythm. I’m wondering “what ever happened to Mary”. Sounds like my kind of girl. Some awesome guitar leads in this one. There’s nothing like a good wah filled pentatonic lead to finish off a song. Sweet distorted vocal in the bridge.

In the meantime starts out really tripped out. This track is a strange and different from the rest but very, very cool. It’s great to come across a tune like this to throw you off a little.

Track seven titled Scream starts out with an organ and then a ride cymbal and bass follow in. Really cool into with an off-time snare brings in the rest of the band. Some funky licks and a great guitar solo with screaming bends really make this one.

The last track titled Today finishes off this album in a very good way. Extremely cool vocals and harmonies, chord progressions and arrangement. The bridge in this tune just gave me the chills. Definitely some really cool lyrics in this tune as well as the rest.

Overall Immigrant Blue is a listeners paradise. It makes me wonder if Mary and Jane had any influence on this disc. One of the prized, independent releases in my collection.

I agree with the reviewer. IB did a great job on this disc and there are some awesome hooks on it. My favorites are Jane and In the Meantime.

Yeah, the CD sounds good, but I hear the bass player is a putz who flips people off during songs.

Really? Because I just heard that the bassplayer said that he isn't afraid of what Jeff will threaten him with. He's bringing a buddy (who he did bribe with free beer if he drove), and will be in full monkey-glory.

So bring it.
