 They're Baaaakkkk!

DetroitMusic.com is Back!  The site was has been under daily attack since November 6th by an unknown assailant.  The person(s) responsible for the assault have been posting multiple blank posts to the high traffic music forum.  Any posts by the regular visitors were quickly pushed back several pages on the site.  An effort to trace down those responsible is under way.

The new site is much easier to navigate and has several new features available to registered users such as who's online, a user photo gallery and a private messaging system.  Also new is a search feature, although I couldn't get that to work during my visit.

Michael, the owner of DM, says he intends to keep the site an open forum and will continue to allow anonymous posts by his visitors, however he doesn't rule out the need to require registration in the future.

Good luck with the new script Michael.  That damn board is addictive!

Thanks for the kind words.

There will always be some forums open for all, but there will be some forums which are for 'members only' in the future.

The search will be functional in the future when there's more 'content' - right now it's nearly all forum postings, and that's not searchable yet either (patience!) Gotta work out a good interface for that.

Anyway, as I said, thanks.

One other thing I noticed is that it loads a heck of a lot faster now too. Mike did a great job on revising the site. I had given up on it and then BamB!!!! He made it better again!

Hrm. I always thought it loaded fast before anyway. You notice much of a difference? The logfile was reset, so instead of writing to a table with a few million entries, there are only a few thousand, so that might help some. We intentionally cut down the layout even more, but tried to make it visually pleasing, and we're stripping our unneeded whitespace too (then compressing). Each page should be well under 10k, which I think will help many people. Even on dialup at home it seems usable. :)

Thanks!

Good job Michael and thanks for posting over here so our visitors can hear from you. I'm glad that the indie artists in Michigan still can use your site for promotion etc. It can be a great resource.

BTW, I also noticed that the board was much faster. Now if you can keep the gremlins out ...

It is so refreshing to see that site remodeled, I hope this change will make it even more successful. My favorite addition is the color selection on the bottom of the page. That gray setup was getting tired, now I can change it anytime I want! Thanks for providing an outlet for local musicians and supporters.

Thanks lost247. There may be more improvements to the color thingy in the future, but it probably won't be a full 'theme' system.

Guess I'd better get off my duff and write a couple of themes for this thing. Got some interesting ideas for tired eyes.
