According to an article by Bruce Warila over at UnsprungMedia.com, the days of landing a major label record deal by being "discovered" by an A&R rep and given a big, fat cash advance are 'dead over.' Record companies, like a lot of companies in Michigan these days, are slashing their payrolls of dead wood, reorganizing and re-investing. In the case of EMI, that means 1500 to 2000 jobs are done - over. That means indie bands will also have to re-think their strategies.
