 From the If-you-don't-do-it-yourself-it-don't-get-done-dept.: Our very own Sonic Disturbance (a.k.a. Joe Luellen) took it upon himself to give a play-by-play review of the ElectroOrganism: Reconnect show at Bert's On Broadway. His electronic MySpace collective has 101 members, twenty-one of whom performed over a two-day period providing twenty-four hours of electronic music! But he's not only the president, he's a member who was right there in the midst of the action.

Saturday May 27th: Upon Entering the Main Floor of Bert’s on Broadway I have a choice to make; take the First Door on the Right and Head to the Basement to check out the DJ showcase, or Take the Second Door on the Right and Head upstairs to check out the Live Room. Or Stay on the Main Floor, Grab a drink and watch the game on one of the many TV screens...
 8:00 PM: OK, a drink and to the basement. The Mix of Red and Purple Lights and Six Slowly Flashing Strobe Lights give the basement a Minimal Rave kind of look as I catch the Beginning of the ACID Prankster’s DJ Set. If you don’t know what ACID Music is, it is like putting an Alarm Siren in a Vat of Boiling Oil and Adding in a Wicked Drum Beat, Pour in some Bouncing Bass and let Sizzle.
The Sound System is Two Bass Bins, Two Powered Subs and 4 Full Range Top Speakers. There are a couple couches to chill on and a few chairs along the far wall, but this is a Dance Music Party.
At the same time, in the Upstairs the Live Room, DJ Ben H is spinning a Funky House Set. Funky House would be described as the Dancing Daughter of 70’s Funk and 80’s New Wave. Funky Bass, Four on the Floor Drums, Choppy Guitar Licks and Organ & Horn Stabs set in a Naughty 2K6 Groove. The Live Room has a large Projector Screen with Visuals being held down by R3PO, A Few Strobe Lights in a Overhead Alcove, a Couple Of Motorized Pin Spots Sweeping Across the Crowd, and once again that Purple / Red Rave Lighting Feel Overhead. Six Bass Bin and Four Full Range Top Speakers are Pointed Out to the FOH and Four Full Range Monitors are Pointed Back and Across the Stage Area. Ben H is Red-Lining the Room, Literally. At 8:50 PM a Breaker Blows in the Live Room and Power Shuts Down.
Joe. H of The W-Vibe is up next for a Live PA at 9:00 PM, if power comes back in time. The guys from Imperial Empire Start Loading up quite possible the most gear I have ever seen one act try to cram on a stage. Meanwhile the basement is stilling Bubbling with ACID House Music.
9:30 – Power is restored to the Live Room and Joe H drops a Live PA set of Video Game Music using Drum Machines, Sequencers, Synthesizers and Samplers. If you got sucked into the TRON Video Game, like in the movie, this would be the soundtrack to your new world.
10:00 PM Joe H finishes his shortened set to make way for Imperial Empire, except they have too much gear to set up in the window of the time that has gone by since they arrived. So on comes a Mix CD until they can sort out all the wires. By 10:30 a scaled back Empire fire up a Thunderous Onslaught of Electro Music. Take a Bunch of Keyboards, and some Sequencers that turn them into Player Pianos, and add in some effects that twist and turn the sound like the Keyboards are being Tortured to a Dance Beat. Imperial Empire proves that Dance Music can have a much power as the Heaviest Metal Bands just Trade The Guitars in for Keyboards.
 11:00 PM and Wicker Basket Takes the Stage in the Live Room. “We’re So High; So High; High – Tech!” It sounds like the Son of Kraftwerk has come to town, in a very good way that is… Wicker Basket goes from Lo-Fi Techno to Industrial and Back, using Samplers, Drum Machines and Twin Set of Air Effects to add Flangers and Phazers with the Wave of his Hands. Coming on After Imperial Empire was no easy task, but Wicker Basket does not run from the fight, but actually carries on the assault without missing a beat!
Right around this time Trent Abbe takes a Turn at the Tables in the Basement. Live Techno Upstairs / Spun Techno Downstairs. Bert’s On Broadway is in Full On Rave Mode on Two Floors.
12:00 PM Bring on Module 8 and Module 8 Brings on a Minimal Techno Set using a Killer Rig of Samplers and Drum Machines. Paulus Hook Fires Up A Techno DJ Set in the Basement. Can a Live Set Sound Like A DJ Set? Yes it can. How do I know, because I have been running up and down the stairs between the Live Room and The DJ Room All Night! R3PO uses a Camera to Capture the Live Performances and Mixes them onto the Projector Screen in the Upstairs Window. The Sights and Sound entice the people passing by on the street to ask what these up and comers are up too at Bert’s On Broadway.
1:00 Brings on the Poor Boy Rich and the 303 Mafia in the Live Room. They proceed to Close down the night with a Mix of ACID / Techno and GOA. Three Guys Rocking 303 Machines. Meanwhile in the Basement DJ Sellout drops a Last Minute Euro-Club Mix. The First Six Hours of the Two Day Party pass by with only 45 Minutes of Lost Time in the Live Room due to finding the breaker and re-routing power from the third floor to avoid popping the breaker again. 12 hours of programming and only 45 minutes of down time, not bad for a bunch of upstarts!
Sunday May 28th
8:00 PM - ElectrOrganism is at it again.
DJ Heather is spinning a set of Sexy House in the Basement.
What is Sexy House? Post-Disco-Funk that makes you want to want to… well I think you can figure it out! Watching Heather Bounce to the beat makes you want to… even more!
Upstairs DJ Dreamdaze is putting on a Hypnotic Industrial Music Display.
DJ Dreamdaze is a Nine Foot Ghost Controlling the Music Mix, His Own Lighting and The Visuals; All at the same time. The effect is truly haunting! You have to see it to believe it, there is no good way to describe the totally surrounding environment.
9:00 O’clock and Brooks Mosher Brings on a Set of Electro, using less gear, than the acts of the night before does not mean less sound. Brooks walks in at 8:50 and is ready to go by 8:59, and starts up a set of Tech-Electro that brings the room to life while Dreamdaze continues to run Visuals for the room. Tech-Electro is like Post-Retro New Wave (I hope these descriptions help).
9:30 and DJ Jason Bolles sets up his Laptop to interface with the turntables in the basement. Jason plays Dirty-Tech-House using a software package called Final Scratch. Dirty-Tech-House is like Molten Funk sped up and cranked to Eleven. We are back in Full on Rave Mode on Two Levels of Bert’s On Broadway.
10:00 and Thirty (over) Thousand and Spectral Mornings are the Sunday version of Imperial Empire as far as the amount of equipment goes, but there is more Live Instruments. Drums / Guitar / Bass / Keyboards / Computers – a Five Piece Tag Team Set Up proving the Electronic Music can be Live and Live Music can be Electronic.
11:00 PM Craig Sopo fires up a Crunchy Techno DJ Set in the basement while Ghoulie brings a Crazy Drum Machine / Sampler Trip Hop Set to the Live room with Live Vocals and a Live Guitar Player. Prodigy Meets the Beastie Boys is the easiest way to describe Ghoulie. Disco Meets Nine Inch Nails is the easiest way to describe DJ Craig Sopo!
12:00 Midnight and Perfect Summer take the Stage in the Live Room. Two Gals on Keyboards and Vocals and A Guy Playing the Violin that goes from Haunted Strings to Rock Guitar Sounds. They are Alternative, they are Perky, they are Retro and they are Live. It is a Hot Summer Night and Bert’s on Broadway is running hot from all the music being put down.
12:30 and DJ Martin Hodge Brings a Latin House DJ Set to the Basement! Can I try to describe one more style of music? Why not, if Ricky Ricardo met Inner City, then you would have Latin House!
1:00 Sonic Disturbance – European Techno, Live Keyboards, Light Show and I’m spent!

Simplicate for the Top of the line sound system in the Live Room; and of course to all the performers who filled both rooms over the course of two days.
Twenty One Acts Total with only 45 minutes of downtown out of 24 hours of programming! All done by a collective that is less than 1 year old!
